No. 21 Air Force Motorcraft Ford Taurus
and F-16 Thunderbird No. 1
Aircraft art and automotive art are my passions.
The two disciplines are a paradox, however. I like to accentuate
automobile surfaces through use of reflections. Military aircraft
play down reflections and accentuate dull surfaces for obvious
reasons.
Two Legends was an assignment by the Air Force
Art Program to portray the Air Force involvement with Nascar.
The Air Force is a co-sponsor of the Wood Brothers #21 Winston
Cup Car. The automobile is actually the "Motor Craft-Air
Force" Ford Taurus, formerly driven by Elliott Sadler.
The scene is accurate to detail and features the #21 car with
the Air Force Thunderbird #1 at Nellis Air Force base. Both
entities are Legends in their own right. They both started
operations at approximately the same time in the late 40''s
early 50's and have continued to this day. The original aviation
art painting is opaque watercolor (gouache) and is in the
Air Force Art Collection at the Pentagon.
